You don’t have to go far to experience some great Montana races this summer!  Living in Bozeman has many pros and one is the running and athletic community.  Here are Bozeman races (and some others I thought worth mentioning) that look fun and support great causes!

April 22nd – Back from Bridger

This race has many different distances ranging from 3 miles to 17.5.  The run starts at the Bridger Bowl and sign up starts at 8:30.  Water will be provided at the finish of each distance, but you will need to find your own transportation back to the start.  If you don't want to race, consider volunteering!

April 29th – The Struggle Bus Run

Not only does this race have a great name, you also receive an awesome 3rd place medal at the finish (regardless of where you really finish). This race is $18 currently and $5 goes directly to the charity Grind For Life which helps cancer patients through financial assistance.

april 29th – Headwaters Kiwanis Fund Run/Walk – Three Forks

Here is another race for the last weekend of April.  This race is to raise money for Three Forks Summer Recreation Program.  If you have kids under 12 consider signing them up, as it is FREE for them!

May 6th – Run For Life – Billings

This race has 3 distances (1 mile, 5K and 10K) and your $25 race fee goes towards the American Cancer Society!  Help raise funds and awareness to put an end to cancer!

May 14th – HAVEN Mother’s Day 5K

Last year this race had 600 members of our community running to support HAVEN’s programs for survivors of domestic violence.  This is a great way to spend your Mother’s Day weekend with your family!

May 20th – AALRM Run for Recovery

This race offers a 5K, 10K and virtual run!  The 10K goes through Black Bull community along Love Lane, through Westlake Park community and back to The Commons for the finish.  The proceeds for this race go to Alive Again Recovery Mission which exists to create a safe Christian environment for individuals to fellowship, learn and heal from addiction and addiction-related effects.

MAY 27TH – the frank newman spring marathon

Gotta love Big Sky Wind Drinkers for putting on great events at a tiny cost!  This marathon is $3!  Good luck finding that anywhere else!  You can also turn it into a relay and there is an awesome lunch at the finish!  This is a great way to enjoy running in its purest form!

Monday May 29th – Running to Remember

This race is put on by Schnee's and has a 10K distance as well as the 5K.  What better way to spend your memorial day then by honoring those who fought for your country!

June 3rd – dutch dash for education – Manhattan

This race is full of beautiful scenery from the mountains to the countryside with potato and wheat fields.  The 5K and 10K race from Manhattan Christian School to Amsterdam Elementary School and the funds raised go to support both of the schools!

june 10th – The Governor’s Cup – Helena

Join our Marketing Director in 52 days in running The Governor's Cup Marathon, 1/2 marathon, 10K, 5K and Kids run in Helena!  This family friendly event is a great course to get a PR on as it is primarily downhill (and lower elevation than Bozeman!)

June 17th – old gabe 30k & 50k

Old Gabe is a nickname for Jim Bridger who lived in the wild west from 1822 to 1867.  He explored our great Valley and as a result has a lot of things named after him!  This race starts and finishes at Middle Cottonwood Trailhead and is a M-shaped course (out and back) on ALL trails.  This is an extremely hilly course with 11,000 feet of climbs making it one of the toughest 50K's in the World! With beautiful views of the Bridgers, what's not to love?!

june 24th – Jim Bridger Trail Run

A 10-mile trail run through the gorgeous foothills of the Bridgers.  What more could you want?

July 4th – Reach Inc. Race for independence (1K, 5K, & 10K)

What better way to spend your fourth of July then running a race for Independence?!  This is a perfect event to bring your family to and it benefits adults with developmental disabilities who receive REACH Inc.'s residential, vocational, and transportation services.

July 9th – Missoula Marathon – Missoula

This race won the Best Marathon in the United States award by Runner's World Magazine in 2010!  This race is a flat, fast, USATF certified, and a Boston Qualifier!

JULY 14TH – seeley lake 50 – seeley lake

This is a good race if you are looking for your first 50K!  It has an overall elevation gain/loss of about 4,000 feet (which in Montana, is pretty minimal!)  The majority of the race will go through the heavily forested National Forest lands.  The views are spectacular, the aid stations are frequent, and cell service is limited- the ultimate trail experience!  If you can't make Friday work, there is a biking race in Seeley Lake on Saturday that is a 22 miler, 35 miler, and 55 miler!  This event features beautiful views on the Continental Divide Trail and takes riders to the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.  They are also teaming up with the Bob Marshall Music Festival for dancing and fun at the end!

JULY 21st – save the tatas – great falls

If you've never experienced a night time "glow" run, now is your chance!  This race begins at 9:45 PM  and benefits Great Falls' 'Women Against Breast Cancer'.  This 5(ish)K will have a photo booth, live music, and food vendors!  So grab your girls and make a weekend of it!

JULY 29th – the butte 100 – butte

"Welcome to the most difficult mountain bike race in the country."  This race weekend has three individual races: a 100 mile, 50 mile, and the Sorini 25 which takes place on top of the Continental Divide!  This is a world-class competition and if you're in to biking it is definitely one to consider!

August 5th – The Sweet Pea Run

This is a Bozeman favorite and we can see why!  Sweet Pea is an exciting festival in Bozeman and this race is the cherry on top!  This race is one of the oldest races in Bozeman and starts and finishes on Main Street!

AUGUST 12TH – THE ED ANACKER BRIDGER RIDGE RUN

This race (commonly known as The Ridge Run) is a race of technicality, difficulty, endurance, and extreme determination!  This race runs along the ridge of the Bridgers and is 19.5 miles of brutal climbing and descending. If you don't get in (they only allow 250 runners) consider cheering for these incredible runners on one of the peaks like Saddle!

AUGUST 19TH – Kickin’ Assphault Half Marathon & 10K – great falls

This is one of Montana's smaller half marathon road races, but that doesn't make it any less stunning!  This race runs along the northern and southern banks of the Missouri River with the beautiful mountains in the background.

AUGUST 27TH – yellowstone kelly mountainman triathlon – billings

I thought we needed to mix things up a bit, so here is a triathlon for the list!  This race has the Olympic Distance as well as a Sprint Distance and you can even make it into a relay team!  This race is USAT sanctioned and goes from a swim in Lake Elmo State Park to riding the bike on top of the Rims and finishing with a run around the lake!  In true Montana form, the race concludes with a brew from Thirsty Street Brewing!

September 10th – bozeman marathon

This is the perfect way to conclude your amazing summer of races!  This marathon, half marathon, 5K, and relay is USATF Certified and a Boston Qualifier.  We believe Bozeman is one of the best places to live in Montana and during this marathon you will experience many of the reasons why.  From the crowd support to the multiple rivers, you are sure to have an enjoyable and beautiful experience as you run with the Bridgers as your backdrop!

That's a wrap!  Hit the trails and enjoy a summer of racing!  Don’t forget Huffing for Stuffing November 23rd!  Another Bozeman favorite that supports the Gallatin Valley Food Bank!
