10 Amazing Architects in Bozeman to Design your Dream Home

Picking an architect is not an easy feat!  Many of the Bozeman architects have a similar mountain, modern style and choosing one can be complicated and overwhelming.  Here is a list of 10 amazing architects, but my best advice in choosing one is to meet with the principal designer and see who you get along with, who’s style most closely aligns to what you like, and who delivers prompt and reliable service!

1. Faure Halvorsen Architects

This firm is a small, but mighty bunch who work together to create a home that is perfect for you.  Faure Halvorsen Architects frequently works with the larger homes in the Yellowstone Club, but also has created commercial buildings such as Jam, Dave’s Sushi, and The City Brew/ Qdoba off of College.  Their Mountain Modern style can be seen throughout the homes with their use of reclaimed wood, stone fireplaces, and exposed timber trusses.

2. Locati Architects

Locati is a big name in Bozeman for custom homes.  They also do a lot of work in the Yellowstone Club creating wood and stone mountaintop homes and frequently have their work featured in popular magazines!  They have an in-house interior design department which is well known in the architectural community.

3. Intrinsik Architecture

This is not the first time Intrinsik Architecture has been mentioned in one of our blog posts!  Intrinsik designs many projects from residential, to commercial, to multi residence.  See their recent work on Tap and Fill Tap Room here.

4. Reid Smith Architects

Another frequent contributor to the Yellowstone Club and Spanish Peaks, Reid Smith Architects designs mountain modern homes that capture the spirit of the site.  Reid graduated from MSU in 2003 with a Masters in Architecture and has since created a thriving company that delivers quality work from start to finish.

5. Miller Architects

This firm produces homes throughout the United States and even one in Europe! Their goal is to "build spaces that help you experience the surroundings, instead of merely insulating you from them."  They do this by choosing materials specific to that region as well as incorporating color and texture palettes that reflect the area in which the house resides.

6. Comma-Q Architecture

Comma-Q has done a lot for beautifying Bozeman.  From the Cannery District to the schools, their work has a modern feel, yet retains the Bozeman-rustic elegance.  This is also true of their residential work.  They work with your style to create unique and beautiful homes.  A perfect example of this is the home to the left.  The couple wanted a small home that reflected their love of New Zealand and fit their active lifestyle and desire for sustainability and energy-efficiency.

7. Bechtle Architects

This Architecture firm loves to bring the outdoors in, whether that be by creating outdoor rooms or terraces and overhangs that match the surrounding landscape.  They frequently work in Big Sky, and developed the 852,000 sq. ft. Resort’s Skier Village.  The home to the left was built in Eagle Rock Reserve subdivision in the South East corner of Bozeman.  See more homes around there here!

8. Pearson Design Group

Pearson Design Group is a high-end firm which never repeats a building design.  They take into account their client’s wishes, aligning it with functionality as well as Mr. Pearson’s style.  They also have their own interior design department which helps the layout and design flow throughout the house while remaining unique!

9. Studio 4 Architects

Studio 4 is located in Bozeman and Billings and dedicates itself to producing quality homes at a fair price.  A new $34 Million complex is currently being built in Billing's West End. This will be a combination of retail and condominiums with underground parking, each condo featuring its own rooftop terrace.

10. Centre Sky Architects

This firm has been around since 1998, is now located in Big Sky, Bozeman, and Denver, and has received Best of Houzz for service four years in a row!  They were also voted top mountain architects & interior designers in the Mountain Living Issue for September/ October 2010!  Their goal is to strive for 50% sustainability components, and they believe that this is the “next thing” in architecture.

Buying an established home is usually more affordable, but when you hire an architect you are getting a handmade, custom design that will be exactly what you want.  Now you have the info, and it’s time to choose that lot of land on which you want to build your dream house!
